Baden
The Swiss town of Baden in the canton of Aargau was founded by the Ancient Romans as Aquae Helveticae because of its natural thermal baths, which remain one of its major attractions to date. Today Baden has about 20,000 inhabitants and is situated about 20 km northwest of Zurich.
In 1847 the first railway line in Switzerland was established between Baden and Zurich (the famous “Spanisch-Brötli-Bahn“), and Baden’s railway station is thus the oldest in Switzerland. While the trip originally took 45 minutes, today it only takes 15 minutes, making Baden very conveniently connected to Switzerland’s largest city.
Cradle of Swiss Industrialization
In 1891 Charles E. L. Brown and Walter Boveri founded the electrical engineering company Brown Boveri & Cie. (BBC) in Baden, which became one of Switzerland’s biggest multinational companies and a major driver of industrialization. One of its numerous innovations was the introduction of the world’s first marketable gas turbine in 1939. In 1988 BBC merged with the Swedish company Asea to form Asea Brown Boveri (ABB), still today one of Switzerland’s most important industrial multinational corporations.
In 1999 ABB merged its power generation business into a joint venture with French multinational Alstom to form ABB Alstom Power. One year later Alstom took over ABB’s remaining half of the joint venture which then became Alstom Power. In 2015 Alstom sold its Power business to General Electric to be integrated into GE Power, now renamed GE Vernova, and to Ansaldo Energia.
Baden Consulting is Founded
The founders of Baden Consulting, Iqbal Bundhoo, Jannis Faupel and Robert Inderbitzin, had met in the early 2000s as employees of Alstom Power in Baden where they collaborated closely and successfully for many years. In 2014, after they had moved on in their careers, they reunited to establish a consulting business in order to allow other companies to benefit from their rich industrial experience in fields such as after-sales service management and process improvement. It was quickly decided to call this business Baden Consulting – honoring the town where they had met and its rich industrial history – and to place it under the umbrella of the company Jannis had just founded a few weeks before, Jannis Faupel AG.
After a few months, Roland Langmoen – another close colleague of the founders from their Alstom Power era – joined the team. It is thanks to Roland’s distinguished expertise in Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Management and his drive to develop the business that Baden Consulting focused more and more on this field. This also led to Baden Consulting being invited to join Inogen Alliance in 2016. Largely thanks to our membership in the Alliance we have been honored to support many of the world’s most renowned multinational corporations in reaching their environmental, health, safety and sustainability goals.
